Now that Kim is raising chickens (which I still haven't seen), is anyone else considering it? I read about it in a book that I bought for Keryn last year. Then Kim got her chickens. Then we bought a piece of property with animal rights. Now I'm tempted. I listed to an interview with Caleb Warnock and he gives the impression that raising chickens can be less work and less expensive than many people make it out to be if you know a few tricks.
Kim, did you read any books to get you started or do you have any tips about whether the rest of us should jump on this self-sufficiency bandwagon?

I did tons of research online. They are fun and easy pets. Chickens can be left alone for several days if your chicken run is large enough. One of the best resources I found was my local IFA and online at http://www.mypetchicken.com/
The chicken coop was much more expensive than we thought it would be to build. We used reclaimed wood and still spent around $350-$400.
Many of my neighbors have had or do have chickens. They love the fresh eggs which they say taste much better than ones from the store.
Our kids, and the neighbor kids, have loved watching them grow from babies. They are somewhat shy, but friendly and follow me around the yard as I work in my garden.
Gracie, Lucy, Remy, and Tod are yet to lay an egg, which Steve says he doesn't know if he can eat, but it should be any day now...
