Job Search Ongoing

At this point I am still involved in the wind-down of the Circuit City offices and they have asked me to stay until mid-May at this point, with the possibility that they may ask me to stay longer. Despite this opportunity, the job search is moving forward.

I made a visit to Seattle this last week to interview with Amazon.com. They contacted me a couple weeks ago and I had a couple phone interviews for a position as the Senior Buyer for office products. After the first phone interviews, I received an email from a former colleague at Ultimate. He mentioned that Amazon was looking for a Senior Buyer for the Audio category. I was quickly able to figure out (through LinkedIn) that I knew 6 people that also knew the hiring manager for this position. I made a few calls, and pretty quickly received an email from this manager at Amazon saying that he had received some calls from people who had recommended that he speak with me. He said that he would like to meet with me when I came out to interview for the other category.

Travel to Seattle was a little challenging. I was supposed to travel Wednesday so that I would be ready for a full day of interviews on Thursday. My flight out of Richmond took off on time, but was unable to land in Washington D.C. due to weather. We landed back in Richmond after flying around for an hour. At this point there was no way that I could get to D.C. in time to catch the connecting flight to Seattle, so I had to reschedule the flight for early Thursday morning. I left the house at 4:30am EDT and arrived at the Amazon office at 1pm PDT where I had interviews back-to-back with six different people, until about 6:30pm.

It was a very long day, but I think it went pretty well. I'll keep you posted on further progress next week. I've had a few other conversations with other possible employers, but nothing that has progressed quite as far along as this.
